Support NOLA Schools Who Stand With BLM

The Krewe of Themis (formerly Nyxed2020) promotes and fosters social justice in the New Orleans Metropolitan area communities and beyond. We are a group of diverse women, uniting to cultivate positivity and inclusion in our community throughout the year. We believe that feminism is strongest when women of all races and sexual orientations work together for the greater good.
We support these six New Orleans schools and marching bands: St. Augustine High School, St. Katharine Drexel Prep, Booker T. Washington High School, KIPP Leadership Academy, Encore Academy, and Frederick Douglas Senior High School. All of these schools, along with us, have spoken out publicly in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and will no longer be participating in a parade that actively does not support social justice.
The marching bands from these schools were paid to participate in krewe events in the past, including the parade and the ball. This money is incredibly important to the marching bands, in order to afford equipment, uniforms, travel expenses and other necessities. These schools should not be penalized for standing on the right side of history. They should be rewarded.
Money from this fundraiser will be released to each school at the end of July/beginning of August. If our goal is not met, the money raised will be equally divided between the six schools. If money is raised over the stated amount, that money will be donated to additional schools impacted by withdrawing with a parading krewe that does not support Black Lives Matter.
We also want to note that, should Mardi Gras be cancelled in 2021 due to the pandemic, these schools would still miss out on these extremely important funds. All money raised will be divided equally among these schools. Please stand with us and help out in any way you can. Resist, rise up, and stand up to racism with us, and with these brave, talented, incredible students!
