Family mourning

August 4th 2018, Mathew was in a vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a homeless man. No, Mathew didn't die! But without much needed help from family, friends, and even strangers, he stands to go to prison for a total of 8-20 years, which would be a life penalty! Mathew had a seizure!! That was a known truth to the family after he was rushed from work to the hospital 5/6 months prior, after a fall from a 16 foot ladder while seizing. The seizure Dr. told Mathew he was able to drive after changing his medication and examinations for a short time.  The family of the deceased man settled with the insurance company for a total of $150,000 and pressed no further legal charges.  Meanwhile Mathew was in acoma in an intensive care unit for almost a week, and in the hospital until September of 2018.  Mathew was then transferred to Health South Physical Rehab to learn to walk again.  He was then transferred to a linguistic rehab in October and graduated after learning how to speak properly and familiarize himself with his family members.   Mathew's dad passed away 7 months later on November 11th after his battle with cancer an concern for his son.  Mathew still learning everything again in a new world and without the fatherly advice he once had, still had to be strong for his mother who would need Mathew to lean on.  He pushed to get hours at work but the fear of him having another seizure at work, made his company give him less.   December of 2019, Mathew was arrested for a DUI resulting in death.  The D.A looking through files wanted to press the issue of Mathew having THC in his blood.  The same THC that was prescribed by his seizure Dr. The same Dr. who won't answer or return messages left by Mathew, or to the lawyer that was retained by Mathew's mother for $30,000.     Mathew was bailed out and confused for $30,000, and because of the DUI portion, Mathew has been forced to pay between $150-$170(Yes, it varies..?), for a breathalyzer and drug patch weekly.  Mathew's first court date was scheduled to be held on April 1st.  Because of Covid 19 it was rescheduled to be held on July 8th.  On June 24th Mathew and his mom met with the lawyer and was told that when asking the D.A to lower the sentence to a probation and loss of license, the D.A laughed and said he was going to push for 8-20 years.   Our family and Mathew don't share in the system's humor. Our lawyer doesn't believe in the sentence being pushed on by the D.A, and advised us that a trial would be necessary to beat this case.  We need to win this case for a great guy who doesn't have the heart to hurt another person. A guy who loves being around others, and laughs at just about everything you say to him. A joy to have around. For anyone with underlying medical conditions who might have THC in their blood and experience a genuine mistake. Help us fight to get these laws changed for the many who might be faced with similar charges in the future, and for my brother!! Thank you. Please pray for us!
