The Audre Lorde & Dignidad Literaria Awards

Donation protected
Dear Friends, This funding campaign will be a continuous fundraiser in order to provide a generous honorarium to a poet of color. Each of these awards is urgently geared towards providing publishing opportunities to BIPOC, Queer and Trans identifying women poets, and Afro and Indigenous Latinx poets. Ideally, we'll award each recipient $2500. However, if we exceed our goal we will increase the honorarium. These awards will also be included in grant applications. I hope you will give us your support. Please see a description of the awards below. The Audre Lorde Award is for a book of poetry by a Black Queer/Trans WOC or Non-Binary poet of Afro-Caribbean, African-American or African heritage. The purpose of this award is to ensure that voices from these communities are published and read widely. We draw inspiration from the literary legacy of Audre Lorde and her tireless activism in the name of Womanism and the Black LGBTQ+ and Non-Binary community. We agree that “poetry is not a luxury” and that “without community, there can be no liberation.” The award is not part of a contest and there is no submission fee. The poetry collection will be selected by the submission team and editors of Get Fresh Books Publishing. The Dignidad Literaria Award is for a poetry collection by a poet of demonstrably African and/or Indigenous ancestry descended from a Spanish speaking country. This includes South America, Central America and the Caribbean, and Brazil. Poets of Haitian ancestry are also welcomed to submit poetry to this award. The purpose of this award is to ensure that poetry by people from these communities are published and read widely. We draw inspiration and guidance from Myriam Gurba, Roberto Lovato, David Bowles, and the #dignidadliteraria movement; fighting for fair representation in publishing and equitable compensation from the publishing industry for writers identified as Latinx. The award is not part of a contest and there is no submission fee. The poetry collection will be selected by the submission team and editors of Get Fresh Books Publishing.
