Last weekend, a Black family celebrating the Fourth of July in Lincoln City was repeatedly targeted and harassed by a large group of drunken, aggressive racists. I read the story and wanted to do something to help. I've since been in contact with the family, who wishes to remain anonymous to preserve their safety.
I believe that after what this family went through, they deserve a Nazi-free vacation to make up for what happened to them in Lincoln City, and I believe they deserve whatever other support that people are moved to provide. Accordingly, I am raising funds on their behalf, and every cent contributed will go to them. Note: The family told me that key aspects of this story's reporting are incorrect in multiple news reports. Most importantly, the family's harassment did not start only after police initially contacted the racists on the beach. In actual fact, everyone involved in the case (including the family) were staying at the Inn at Spanish Head. At two different times earlier in the day, family members were harassed inside the hotel, including by Nazi salutes. When the family went to the beach to avoid the harassers, the harassers followed. They pointedly set up camp right next to the family, blared racist music, threw firecrackers, and mimed shooting guns at the family. Despite multiple attempts by the family to get the hotel to take the harassment seriously, it was only shortly after this that police arrived on the scene.
