Andrew Carreon- Lion Heart

Donation protected
On June 16th 2020, our 15 year old son Andrew Carreon and his cousins went out to Sloan Canyon to enjoy a day of ATV fun. While out riding in a Razor, with his younger cousin, they took a turn to quickly and hit a patch of loose gravel, flipping the Razor and they slid to a complete stop.   Andrew’s left arm was pinned between the roll bar and the desert gravel and was now hanging on by a thread.   He was able to pull himself out from under the vehicle and help his cousin out safely.

The ride had taken them far from base camp and although he was in pain and bleeding prefusely,  Andrew knew he had to get help as soon as possible.  There is no cell phone signal in the middle of the desert therefore unable to make the 911 call,  they began to run back in the direction in which they came.   After running for about a half mile, he began to lose strength and his vision became blurry.    He was afraid that he was going to die and he didn't want his little cousin to have to see that happen.   Andrew decided it would be best to send him away.  He told him that since he was much faster  it would be best if he went ahead to get help.   His cousin did so and Andrew continued to walk alone for another 10 minutes, pleading with God to save him, all the while trying to stay awake and get to safety.

Miraculously,  a black truck driving along the same trail showed up about 100 yards out from where he was.  Andrew stood in the that middle of the road and yelled at the driver to stop for help.   As the "Angel in the black truck" pulled up,  he took a look at Andrew's arm and told him to get in.   Andrew told the man that his cousin was running alone just up ahead and they needed to stop  and pick him up too.

All three made their way back to camp where the rest of the cousins were but there was still no phone signal. The man then drove Andrew even further back to civilization where they were able to get a call out for help.   He stayed with him the entire time until Andrew was air lifted to UMC Trauma center where they were able to save his life.

Andrew underwent 5 surgeries within the first week in the Pediatric ICU but sadly,  lost his left arm due to infection.  He is finally home recovering after a total of 25 days in the PICU.

Although he lost his arm in the desert that day, his will to survive and persevere will not be lost.   He has multiple surgeries and a long road to recovery ahead of him, both physically, mentally and emotionally.  Once completely healed, suitable prosthetics  and rehabilitation will be needed to ensure Andrew has a chance at living his best life possible.

We are humbly asking for any assistance that can be provided towards the ever growing costs associated with medical bills to providing him with his first prothestic arm.  Our hope is to be able to raise $10,000 towards his cause.

We are so grateful to have him with us and thankful to be able to share this story of our brave, Lion Hearted son.
