Hi! My name is Fernanda Diniz and I'm here to ask for your help.
My 3 year old son, Conrado, was born with a rare deficiency on his right leg named Fibular Hemimelia and also with a rare deficiency on his right arm named Ulnar Dysplasia.
In Conrado's case, the deficiency on his leg is defined by the absence of the fibula and a few toes and also by a curvature on his tibia.
Conrado went through a couple of surgeries here in the United States, which were afforded by a huge campaign in Brazil in 2017, before we got here to start his treatment.
Conrado's going through treatment at The Paley Institute, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Dr. Paley is the pioneer doctor of this innovative treatment , the one who developed all the operative procedures for bone reconstruction and also the one who developed an external fixator that is responsible for lengthening shortened tibias.
First, Dr. Paley reconstructed Conrado's ankle, which was practically absent and also removed the curvature of his tibia. The following surgery, an external fixator was placed on Conrado's leg to lengthen his tibia. A few months later, Conrado went through surgery again for fixator removal and separation of his right hand fingers, which were totally webbed.
After that, Conrado also went through intense physical therapy sessions and fortunately, he's pretty healthy and active now. But his treatment hasn't reached the end yet. Conrado's going through 3 more bone lengthenings, up to his teenage years.
Today, Conrado needs a follow up appointment with his doctor, so his left knee gets checked, due to a heavy fixator that caused his knee to bend inward.
Plus, x-rays of his legs will be taken and the doctor will get us a prescription of a new shoe lift, as Conrado needs it to keep his legs the same height.
I'd be grateful for your support so that Conrado can have his appointment, his new shoe lift and we could afford new immigration fees that came up to extend our stay here in America.
