Georgianne's bone marrow transplant fund

My name is Georgianne, I am a loving mother of three kids and a trained teacher for special education. During 2016 I battled a rare form of ovarian cancer and beat it a year later with the help of excellent care and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, three years later I found out that the chemotherapy altered certain chromosomes and a new cancer developed that is more severe than the previous. This threat that I am currently battling is called Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) which is a blood cancer of the bone marrow which can quickly change into Leukemia. As a high-risk MDS patient, my doctors tell me that a bone marrow transplant is the only cure. In accordance with my doctors’ plan, I am undergoing several treatments of low-level chemotherapy; then my immune system will be wiped out with strong chemotherapy. After which, my doctors will proceed with a bone marrow transplant.

However, even with my insurance there are many expenses that insurance will not cover (i.e., donor search, stem cell procurement, overseas transportation of the stem cells, a four-week hospital stay, and housing expenses for two months near the hospital). In addition to these there will be several months of a long recovery phase with weekly visits to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for checkups. All donations received will go towards these expenses.

Currently I am going through my third round of chemotherapy with the bone marrow transplant planned for some time between mid-January to mid-February.
