Hi, my name is James. I'm an Acting student at Drama St Mary's and I'm really trying to begin my life before my career takes off after I finish my studying! The reason I set the GoFundMe up was to help my start my transition; I would like help to pay for my top surgery. My first consultation was the 10TH OCTOBER 2020. I've now had two surgery consultations with two different surgeons and I've made the decision to go with Dr Ken Stewart in Edinburgh.

Background and Current Status: My name is James, I'm a 22 year old transgender male who has been out since the age of 14/15 and on the waiting list for Leeds GIC since August 2018; the GoFundMe helped pay for my first consultations with Dr Lorimer at GenderCare. I started hormones on the 31st March 2020 and now want to progress into getting top surgery in the summer of 2021. I've decided that Dr Ken Stewart will be my option.

Reason I'd like help: The NHS has a huge wait time that affects all transgender people as they slowly increase to more than three years. From that first appointment, I will likely have to wait another year before they take over from my private shared care agreements. I've heard that NHS surgery wait times are creeping up and are currently at two years; I am a student actor who wants to be themselves when they are finally able to get professional work and get roles their body is most suited for! Right now, I work a part time job in a kitchen. While I do try to save where I can, it is becoming increasingly harder while I am in the process of moving homes and using it to cover rent. Only a small amount is currently saved in my bank and I'm hoping I'll be able to save up much more in the near future once businesses reopen!

What else I am doing: After managing to get on hormones, I've wanted to re-invent this page so that anyone visiting can know exactly where I am in my transition! Right now, year on testosterone and seeing a LOT of changes I'm extremely happy with! But for my reasons above, I would like to continue my transition with top surgery.

Research: I understand that donating to something like this can be questionable because it is a lot of money that is being asked for and there are other pages that do require more attention. I've spent a long time researching which surgeon I would like based on the results and, after having my consultation with Dr Lorimer, he's given the go ahead to see Dr Miles Berry (16th March 2021). I've now had this consultation. On the 18th March 2021, I saw Dr Ken Stewart in Edinburgh and decided to go with this doctor. I'm looking into payment options regarding the hospital. The surgery price is £6000.
