The history and preservation of West End Golf Course, as a public green space, was decided on when the 72 acre property on Newberry Road was zoned RECREATIONAL under the Alachua County Comprehensive Land Use Plan. It is an anchor and a centerpiece for the community and needs to be treated as a unique historical and valuable green space.
With the already existing residential developments along Newberry Road, the conversion of West End Golf Course to another high density development would destroy this recreational green space and the quality of life for the surrounding communities besides adding to the Newberry Road traffic and congestion.
Friends of West End are asking for your donation to be used for attorney fees and expenses related to fighting the rezoning and keeping the zoning RECREATIONAL. If successful, this property could be used for a playground, biking and walking trails and other recreational activities that would benefit the whole community.
