Street Vendor’s Relief Fund in San Antonio, TX
It is no news that for the last several months, many small businesses have taken a big hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many street vendors are often immigrant small business owners who are not eligible for government support such as unemployment insurance/stimulus checks or even qualifying for loans and grants to help sustain their families through these difficult times.
As a daughter of someone who has also been affected by no government support, I wanted to figure out a way where I could truly give back to my community and to help those families who may be going through similar situations. I believe that where there is an opportunity to extend a helping hand, it’s important that we do just that.
Many street vendors often face harassment and even arrest just for earning a living and supporting their families. We see this happening all over the country. Through whatever circumstances and weather, they show up for us daily and are such an essential part to the economy in San Antonio, TX, being that this is a tourist city. Now is the time to do our part to show our appreciation to these wonderful vendors and their families for their daily hard work.
The funds that are raised will be delivered personally to vendors on prepaid cards to cover pantry, medical, and monthly bills or any other needs they may have. With your help, we can make a difference and show our community that we are here to help them in these critical times and that their hard work never goes unnoticed. Now is the time to come together as a community because we really only have each other in these times and we should take full advantage of that!

No es ninguna noticia que durante los últimos meses, muchas pequeñas empresas se han visto muy afectadas por la pandemia de COVID-19. Muchos vendedores son inmigrantes y por ende no son elegibles para recibir apoyo del gobierno, como por ejemplo, seguros de desempleo / cheques de estímulo, o préstamos y subvenciones para ayudar a mantener a sus familias en estos momentos difíciles.
Como hija de alguien que también se ha visto afectado por la falta de apoyo del gobierno, quería encontrar una forma en que realmente pudiera ayudar a mi comunidad y apoyar a aquellas familias que están pasando por situaciones similares.
Muchos vendedores enfrentan hostigamiento e incluso arrestos solo por trabajar para apoyar a sus familias. Esto lo vemos en todo el país. Diariamente se presentan a trabajar, sin importar las circunstancias, y son una parte esencial para la economía de San Antonio, TX, ya que es una ciudad turística. Ahora es el momento de poner nuestro granito de arena para demostrar el agradecimiento que les tenemos a estos maravillosos vendedores y sus familias por su trabajo diario.
Los fondos que se recauden se entregarán personalmente a los vendedores en tarjetas pre pagadas para cubrir gastos de despensa, médicos, y facturas mensuales o cualquier necesidad. Con su ayuda, podemos hacer la diferencia y mostrarle a nuestra comunidad que estamos aquí para ayudarlos en estos momentos críticos y que su arduo trabajo nunca pasa desapercibido. Ahora es el momento de unirnos como comunidad, porque realmente solo nos tenemos el uno al otro en estos tiempos. ¡debemos aprovechar al máximo eso!
