After much convincing from my loving community members, and my declining mental state, I have decided this is the best thing to do to keep me alive.
I am coming to you all very humbly in asking for your help. I have created this fund to get my brother and me out of our home into a safe space.
Our family is very queerphobic, mentally, emotionally, and financially abusive and both of us suffer from Bipolar (1&2) so this abuse has only worsened our mental states. Having to live in the house where you were traumatized in does no good to the mind and soul.
Before COVID, my plan was to graduate (which I did in May) and save up to move out of state. Unfortunately, I was laid off and with that meant no income, no insurance, and no move. My brother has been on disability for a year due to the aggressiveness of his illness and relies on me.
We live in one of the most expensive cities on the East Coast and that means a 2bd apt is around 3,000. Due to financial abuse my credit was tarnished and apartments are asking that we put up more money. We have negotiated 6 months upfront for 4 different locations. We cannot take anything with us in terms of furniture so we would just be going with the clothes on our back. We would be using the fund for furniture as well. We are also accounting for moving cots and storage for everything in the house that is ours (we won't be allowed back and arent looking to go back).
We both have debt and bills, and I have yet to find a stable job in a time where nationwide hiring freezes are in place. These funds will cover 6 months of bills so we don’t fall prey to housing insecurity the moment we move in and gives me adequate time to find a job
