Street Vendors Relief Fund of Brownsville, Tejas

Donation protected
The Street Vendors Relief Fund of Brownsville, Tejas aims to provide emergency financial assistance to local vendors who have been impacted by the COVID-19 public health pandemic.

This mutual aid initiative is led by community organizers who recognize that Street Vendors have always been faced with adversity. Even before COVID-19, vendors have been forced to work in the shadows to avoid facing legal action and costly city citations and fees. In spite of the community's attempts to work with representatives of the City of Brownsville, there has been no action towards creating initiatives that would help support street vendors and their families.

The funds collected through this initiative will be distributed to 10 vendors and their families who are in need of basic necessities in Brownsville’s Buena Vida neighborhood. Our goal of $5,000 will allow us to provide each family with a total of $500 to cover rent, groceries, medical bills, childcare and other essential living expenses. The selection of vendors will be determined by a panel of grassroots community organizers and community members. We aim to have all funds distributed by August 22, 2020.

Vendors have always been at the core of creating alternative economies and vibrant communities. Their presence builds and strengthens public spaces, connecting people to each other and to the knowledge passed down by previous generations. The energy they dedicate to learning their craft leads to an abundance of resources for all of us. Any amount you can contribute to help them through this crisis would be greatly appreciated.
