Save Peterborough Community Theatre

Here today, gone tomorrow...?

Do you want the Peterborough Community Theatre to still be here after all this is over?

We thought we would have to close down for about three months, but instead it could be up to a year!

Small businesses survived the 1918 pandemic, world wars, and the Great Recession in 2008, but small businesses are closing at an alarming rate right now during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PCT is no exception and is in danger of closing its doors forever!

With attendance down 95% and no new content in sight, we cannot continue to keep the theater running. We are facing shutting down and selling the assets, making the revival of the theater virtually impossible.

PCT is New Hampshire's oldest movie theater, it survived the aforementioned challenges, but as the current owners we recognize that it will not survive the 2020 pandemic unless the community steps up to ensure that we can turn the lights back on after this has passed. With streaming services replacing the in-person theater experience, movie theater owners have never felt this much pressure. We had a small email campaign at the beginning of the COVID shutdown and it has brought us this far, but we need your continued help. Your funds would pay for rent,  purchase loan payments, utilities, and equipment contracts, the bare bones to keep our business in the black until we have new releases and people feel safe to come back.

There is only one way for us to survive and that is for our community to contribute to this valuable downtown asset. Peterborough COMMUNITY Theatre depends on you to see it into the future once this dark cloud is lifted but we need the funds by October 1, when our reserves will run out. Just like the 1918 pandemic didn’t last forever, there WILL be better times and a day when we can gather again safely.  Movie studios will start filming again, theaters will show new, entertaining and inspiring films again, but not until a vaccine or effective treatment is available to all. Most experts think a vaccine is likely to become available by mid-2021, which is a full year from now. PCT needs the resources to pay overhead expenses until then. Without those resources, we will be forced to sell off the assets of the business, leaving only the building’s empty shell.

Do you want PCT to be your local source of entertainment again? Can you help us get through the year? Without you, we cannot do it and any size donation will be gratefully accepted. Without a successful campaign, PCT will close its doors forever. From its first days as The Gem in 1914, its legacy has continued for 106 years. Why? Because the people supported it. Our community has the resources to see it through, but only if YOU help. We can preserve its history and see it into the future with your involvement. Please donate to save the theater so that we can continue to provide entertainment, education, and inspiration to our local people and beyond for years to come. Kevin and I purchased the theater in 2018 to keep it alive, now we need all of you to help us. It would mean the world to us to see our town come together and show their support. Community is our middle name! Your donation will see us through. Please donate now, we cannot do it without you. #savepctmovies
