We all have a purpose and I believe my purpose is to make the stories of the peoples, places, and cultures that are in danger, as well as showcase aspects of mainstream cultures that we take for granted or often overlook, more accessible and known.
The showcasing our similarities, common strengths, goals, hopes, dreams, and even our responsibilities in life is a missing element in the various fights we all fight for justice and peace. However our differences can be, and often are, ignored and are just as important as the similarities that breed cohesiveness. I am determined to spread the narrative that our differences make us stronger, that our differences are worth the conversations.
I have learned that a seed can take six years, or more, to sprout. That sometimes the soil, which we’ve grown out of, isn’t fertile, that the gardeners who were caring for us weren’t educated on proper conservation methods, that the environment around us has dumped chemicals and quick fixes into us, that the topsoil and deep soil have different needs. I have learned that we’re not working to grow a garden in a year that we’re working to grow a forest in a lifetime. I’ve learned that it’s the soils that we need to spend our time on, that we need to focus on the conservation just as much as we focus on the budding growth. Deep lasting change starts with seeing each other as friends, family, and allies. It starts with replacing fear and wariness with respect and understanding. I am determined to do just that via cultural research, photography, and documentaries that will be easily accessible to the global public at little to no cost.
