Support Ariel

Donation protected
This fundraiser has been put together by Shane Auckland and other local Seattle skaters to support the family and widow of beloved Seattle skateboarder Sean Motaghedi, who we lost to depression on July 11. Sean was, as his wife Ariel put it, the thread that held together so many amazing relationships in the Seattle area, both in skateboarding and outside of it. As manager of Lynnwood’s North End Skateshop, plus an accomplished skate photographer and assiduous, passionate skater himself, he touched so many different communities and subcommunities in skateboarding. So many of us were lucky enough to call Sean our friend, and one of the small silver linings of his death is that we’re now discovering how many of us there were.

But while Sean’s love for skateboarding and the Seattle skate scene was boundless, he was also very dear to his and Ariel’s families. The Alfaros considered him the son they never had, and the brother to Silvia and Aly, his sisters-in-law, that they’d always wanted. Ariel and Sean would have celebrated their second wedding anniversary this August. Their wedding day was one of the happiest of his life.

We hope that all of us who were connected in some way through Sean can come together to support Ariel and the families as they navigate the practical concerns related to Sean’s passing. Besides the funeral expenses, Ariel has been unable to work for several weeks, and is facing the loss of 50% of household income. These funds will allow her the time and space to properly grieve for Sean, and transition back to work in a way that supports her own mental and emotional health. Ariel has been setup as the direct beneficiary of this campaign.

We as skateboarders are so grateful for the time we got to spend with Sean, and so grateful to the Motaghedi and Alfaro families for sharing him with us. Sean will always be in our hearts, and Ariel and both families will always be a part of our community.

If you can afford it, please join us in supporting Ariel and the Motaghedi/Alfaro families. Thank you.
