Screen360.tv: The world is your classroom

"It seems to me that the greatest way to gain empathy for somebody else is to see
their lives."

Professor Pamela Douglas, USC School of Cinema

Out of the empathy sparked across the globe for the two pandemics COVID and Race, we offer a way to continue informing young people’s tapped desires to know more           about the world they've been watching watch us.

Now, like never before, students who were born into the world in the same year are       more likely to influence and learn from each other.  They are International Peers (TM),  sitting beside each other as well as across an ocean, and the expectations of them are      increasingly global.  They've already begun finding their own ways.  Screen360.tv wants to further guide introductions through the film festival model's moderated discussions, sparking empathetic learning, language learning, geographic exploration and more.  We bring the world in its original languages to learners through  diverse cinema.

Screen360.tv presents expertly curated international films for K -12 learners with AP, IB and Common Core curricula informing our selections.                                                                    Screen360.tv  makes the world your classroom.

"I would like students to know there are impactful people in each culture."
Student Activist M'munga Songolo, High School Class of 2021

Team Screen360.tv is built on more than thirty years of combined experience in film curation (including establishing four festivals in the Bay Area), film production, teaching, cognitive development, application development, business and learning. Credentials come from Stanford and USC. The Screen360.tv system was originally developed and tested at Stanford Graduate School of Education, the Stanford d. School, Bayside STEM Academy and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital both to engage a project leading with empathy and to counteract the isolation of hospitalization with mediated peer engagement. Now due to the pandemic, we are all  isolated from our world.  We believe Screen360.tv can address the pains of isolation with both educational and social connection.

"I definitely agree about, like, how international films can help kids feel more                   connected."
Esme Illing, High School Class of 2024

Through Steve Blank and team's Hacking4Recovery  intensive and the GSV Bootcamp   we listened closely to  many teachers, students, parents and    filmmakers to pivot and provide a solution to specifically support pandemic recovery in Education:

Household
✻ Students need immersive, authentic learning experiences to prepare for an increasingly connected global economy
✻ Teachers and guides need easily accessible and distributable media that fits their         curriculum.
✻ Parents want to insure safety and take on the direction of learning with their families.

Filmmaker
✻ Filmmakers want to learn from international audiences, to test acceptance and inspire new stories through awakened understanding of the
audience's capacities.

Where do the films come from and who selects them ?

1) Directly from filmmakers.
2) From visiting conferences - foreign film festivals with rigorous selection systems,  like the renown Berlin Film Festival's Generation section.
3) From our research and networks round the globe.
4) From student filmmakers whose work we guide.
5) From film distributors and film archives

How will funds be used?

To support necessary activities toward a September 17, 2020 pilot launch in a small        group of California, Oregon and Ohio schools including further digital development, film licensing and marketing.

Screen360.tv has been tested in several use cases with low-cost MVP that allowed basic functionality to offer three screenings per day since the first weeks of shelter-in-place using free available software.  Building upon this prototype  www.screen360.tv , refining a secure design and functionality    for  web and tablet will cost  $18,000.

Our Bay Area-based advisory board includes Software Engineers with expertise in Education Use and Video Streaming, Investment, Design and Legal professionals.  Their keen guidance informs our choices.  We're grateful to the continued generous mentorship gained through Hacking4Recovery.

“When my student spoke Farsi with the film’s director, the entire class lit up! They were thrilled!   The rest of the morning was a lesson about Iran and the next film from                Germany. ”  --- Melissa Barry-Hansen, 2nd Grade Teacher, Oakland USD

International films for young audiences level the playing field for learners, offering            immersive, travel-like experiences in a time when we can't travel.

“Children in the world want to know what other children in the world are doing.”
Filmmaker Ulla Hjorth Jensen, Danish Film Institute.

Thank you for your shared vision and support.  Please pass it on.
