My name is Kevin, I am 20 years old and from Detroit. I am a female to male transgender.
5 months ago I bought the car I’ve always wanted with my own money as a birthday present to myself. 1 month ago I was driving through my neighborhood during a shooting, my car was shot at the bullet landed 2 inches from my head through the front windshield. 1 week ago I was in Chicago driving back to my airbnb when my car was hit by another car that did not stop. The car did not start after and had too much damage so I had to scrap my car for $150.
I know what I was born, I don’t believe I mistakenly came out as the wrong gender, but born with a chemical imbalance that causes me to feel this way. Growing up I was always told to act more like a female. Things came natural to me like sitting with my legs farther open, the clothes I chose to wear, even trying to pee while standing when I was 4 years old. The things I felt happy doing I was told wasn’t right. You cannot find happiness in something that isn’t you. I feel that being trans is like living a life that’s already made for you. Not making your own choices but doing what everyone else says is right.
I’ve always struggled with anxiety and depression. When I was 17 I got desperate for help so I went to a mental health clinic where I would go instead of school. I was so sad I couldn't focus the thoughts came that I'd be better off dead.
When I was in high school I wore an ace bandage around my chest to make it look flat. I would feel dizzy, lightheaded, and even fainting one time because how tight the wrap was restricting my breathing. To me this was better than feeling that someone was constantly looking at my chest. I scheduled my top surgery that is non refundable not knowing this was going to bring me right back to the start. The total cost was $6400 it is now at $5200. I am still going to work my best with the time that I have.
