Art & Music Bring us Together

Fallout Creative Community has been committed to bringing people from isolation to community through the arts for many years and now we are putting our brainstorming into high gear thinking of creative ways to keep this work happening in these times of social distancing.

We are raising funds match a grant from the South Dakota Arts Council to support projects to connect people with art & music during this time of separation.

Funds will buy art and other supplies for two projects.

Project One: Collaborate from a Distance Mural Project -The plan: Make a large black and white design on a board. Cut the design into pieces. Distribute the pieces along with needed art supplies to people in the community. They paint the pieces in their homes and return them. The pieces get put back together and touched up. The finished murals are displayed in windows of downtown Main Street businesses. We then advertise to the public the opening of a drive by art show featuring over 100 local artists! One mural has been done as a prototype and we plan on 5 murals for our first goal and 10 murals as our stretch goal. We also want to identify anyone in the community who needs arts supplies. We want to provide supplies to people (whether or not they participate in the mural project) knowing that creativity is an effective way to deal with stress.

Project Two: Friday Night Live-Stream Concerts:  -The Plan: Because we can't gather in large crowds but we still need the opportunity to perform and listen to musical creativity we are having Live-Stream musical events every Friday night on the Red Rooster Coffee House Facebook page. People can tune in and watch local musicians perform as well as musicians who stream in from their homes from around the globe.  Folks can comment as the musicians perform and have live interaction with them and other viewers. We have been doing this for several weeks but we need some supplies (hardware and software) to raise the quality of the video and audio.

Better Ride: many people are familiar (or big fans of) our band Better Ride, which started 10 years ago as a writing project that was inclusive for people with developmental disabilities. This writing crew morphed into a singing/songwriting group and became known for their live performances around the state. Since the pandemic started, Better Ride has performed at the live-stream shows, with a different member of the band sitting in each Friday with Dan, the guitar player. We also do a sing-a-long session on Wednesdays.

The funds will cover:

Art Supplies for the mural project as well as for people in the community who need art supplies.
Advertising/promotions:
-to identify those who need art supplies
-to connect with those who want to participate in the mural project and/or live stream events
-to invite the public to the drive-by art show
Small stipends to the professional musicians who perform for our Live-Streams whose incomes have been negatively affected by the pandemic.
Software and Hardware for the Live-Stream music events
as well as
Covering residual costs from The Art & Music Festival that took place in September 2019 and Better Ride tour events that took place in the past 9 months.
