On Saturday, August 8, Curt Wuellner left his home on Lake Norman in Statesville, NC to go for a walk and pick up trash along the road, as he often did, when he found and followed an obscure trail. On his way back home, he sat down to rest on an incline under some shade trees and leaned his head back to rest. He never woke up.
Once his family realized he was missing, 2 days of frantic and extensive searches on land and water by Iredell Search and Rescue, family and friends, ensued. He was found in the woods Monday evening, 8/10, by a close family friend, his bag of trash nearby. No foul play or injuries were evident, other than a scratch on his back where he'd leaned against a twig. His death appears to be a result of low blood sugar from diabetes. Curt's family and friends are rocked to their core, but grateful that he has been found and to know that he is at peace.
A hard worker at Freightliner, an avid outdoorsman and boater, Curt was active in his church where he loved working with the youth and taking a personal interest in their lives. His summer weekends were spent taking his sons and their friends out on the boat and enjoying the lake with them. More than anything, he was proud of his boys.
Curt was a man of action, and many who care for him and his family have been asking what action they can take to be of tangible help for Kim, Brixon and Jaxon. The family has decided that, in lieu of flowers, a fitting tribute would be for donations to be made towards Brixon and Jaxon's college education.
Regardless of your ability to contribute financially, please continue to hold up Curt's family, and especially Kim, Brixon and Jaxon, in prayer as they learn to navigate life in Curt's absence. He is loved by many and will be profoundly missed.
