Vickie Edge Memorial Fund

Vickie Edge was as close to a saint or angel here on earth as anyone could be.  She would do anything for anyone and even if she only had $10 in the bank, she would find $20 to give to someone else if they needed it.  She raised money for people in need, for charitable organizations for causes and she was not afraid to ask you for it and expect you to give too.   You hear the phrase "she would give you the shirt off her back"...well Vickie took that further.  She was such a giver, she had stepped forward to be her friend, Kathy Houchins kidney donor.   In April, she told Kathy that God spoke to her heart that she needed to get tested to see if she was a match.  She was the perfect match and we had recently kicked off a fundraiser on the Kidney Foundation site HelpHopeLive.org to raise the money for them to do the transplant in January.

On Tuesday,  August 4th, Vickie went in for a colonoscopy only to find out she had Stage 2 Colon Cancer.  She was devasted.  Not because she had cancer, but because she could no longer be the kidney donor.  I spent the morning on the phone with her on Wednesday and she was desperately trying to find a new donor for Kathy before she had to tell her the sad news.  She had already found one person to step forward to get tested. That afternoon, together, we broke the news to Kathy.  We all cried together for them both but assured her God would provide the answer and she needed to focus on her own health now.  My last text from her Wednesday night was at 7:40 pm - in Vickie style, telling me how much she loved me and appreciated me.  worried about who we would find to be the donor now.  A little over 12 hours later, she was gone not from cancer but from domestic violence.

She trusted and looked for the best in everyone.  A monster she met online just two months before, took full advantage of that....he savagely sucked her in with the promises of a fairytale life.  Instead, he brutally murdered her when he couldn't deliver on his promise instead of walking away like a decent human.

We know that Vickie is whole now, in the loving arms of Jesus.  She was an angel on earth to many but now she wears the golden angel crown in heaven.  She will be watching over all of us who knew and loved her.

We are asking that you continue her legacy of giving.  Whether it is to this fund to support the final expenses her family will have, to the fundraiser for the kidney transplant she so thoughtfully wanted to give, to your favorite charity or to step forward in her memory and get tested to be the angel she spent the last day of her life so desperately searching for.

Just GIVE.  It is what Vickie would have wanted us all to do.
