Rock Bottom Homestead Hearth

Rock Bottom Homestead is a wonderful journey toward a more sustainable life (for us three little peas: Joshua, Rachael, and Duende - our little 10 yr old homeschooled faerie child), here in ruralish Maine, where we can share our bounty with others. This year, from our 13-acre homestead of apple trees, grapes, blackberry, and cultivated gardens we have moved into living food: Sourdough starter to make boules and baguettes, bagels, crackers, and pizza dough, Kimchi which we use seasonal and foraged ingredients (making a spicy, a classic, and foraged), Cheese - so far offering fresh ricotta and mozzarella with further plans for hard cheeses, Pickles, Seasonal and local Jams and Flower Syrups, and Herbal/Medicinal Teas. Please check out our doings at our blog: https://rockbottomhomestead.farm/

Our philosophy is to grow what we need and share what we have - so that everyone can engage as locally as possible, helping each other, connecting with each other to strengthen our communities and thus, this crazy world.

But we need help. We need to replace our old and outmoded oven - it is not able to handle the workload we are offering to share (and not sure how long it will carry the houseload). We are also looking to increase our abilities and offerings by building an outdoor bread oven. We think this will distinguish us and make us a community centerpiece. We'd love to be a place where everyone can bring their bread to bake here, have bread-making classes, family pizza evenings. A real community hearth.

We'd love to be able to continue to share our gifts, our calling, our community. At this time of uncertainty, we are certain that we will continue to share what we have in the ways we are able. However, we need to move forward, offering a more substantial community connection.

We are hoping to afford an in-house baking oven by July and the outside oven by September for at least a symbolic Harvest Party Bake - for years the Autumn Equinox has been celebrated here with a big community picnic, live music, family gathering, we are not sure if that can happen this year but we can still be open to small baking appointments for everyone to keep Rock Bottom Homestead a growing and vital link to local and sustainable living.

Your help is deeply appreciated and stands as a commitment to this kind of living and your part in it. You are a part of this community and we thank you from the very bottom of our grateful hearts.
