Help HMB Local, Dad & Health Care Hero Attacked

On Sunday August 9th, 2020 Nico and his wife rode bikes from Half Moon Bay to Princeton for a dinner date. On their way home, Nico was attacked by a tourist with a knife and stabbed multiple times. The stabbing occurred because the tourist repeatedly refused to yield to Nico on his bike. It was a very busy Sunday in the harbor near Barbara's Fish Trap. Nico rang his bell and asked permission to get by, but instead got attacked by the tourist. Thankfully this was quickly reported and police were on scene to detain the suspect and an  ambulance rushed him to a nearby trauma center where he underwent multiple procedures to stabilize him. 

Nico has two young children and a wife. He is also a frontline worker at a Pediatric Emergency Department, during a global pandemic. Because this health care position is new to Nico, he has very limited PTO to be able to cover the time off he will need for his recovery.  As a father of two with a new job and an unforeseen terrible circumstance, he and his family will be facing a hardship.

As his lifelong friends and fellow Half Moon Bay members, we put together this GoFundMe to help reduce the effects of this hardship and also as a way for the community to be able to support a great, kind-hearted, caring member of our community who did not deserve to be viciously attacked. 

We are SO grateful that bystanders, police, and EMS acted together so quickly. We are also grateful the suspect was put into custody. But, we are most grateful that Nico is still alive today to be the great father, husband, and son he is.

Now it is time to help his family heal and recover from this horrendous experience. Join us in making a difference to someone who really deserves it!
