Help a Black Mentally Ill Lesbian Support Herself

Beschermde donatie

Recently I was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder, formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder. The news was a lot to take in but I need to find a proper way to cope with my identities. Recently my family changed insurance plans, increasing the amount of money I have to pay for therapy and a psychiatrist. I’m currently struggling financially and need money to fund my appointments so I can continue taking the medication I need.

Dissociative Identity Disorder forms when someone experiences intense trauma during their childhood and as a way to cope, the child closes off fragments of emotions that are tied to that trauma and it manifests into its own identity. Due to the stigma around mental illnesses it’s hard to be supported by my family leaving me to fund my appointments myself.

I’ve also been left jobless due to COVID-19 and will have trouble financially supporting myself because of my upcoming role as an RA at NYU. I cannot rely on my family for income because I come from a very toxic household where I’m often pressured to give what little money I have to my mother and I wish to save for myself so I can be financially stable after graduation. I’ve faced so many obstacles mentally, emotionally, and financially and I don’t have many options.
