Affordable Housing Matters
My name is Cookie and I grew up living in
Riverview Terrace in Tampa, Florida. Sounds
luxurious doesn’t it? It was luxurious as a
public housing project that I called home until I was 11 years old .
I didn’t know my family was living in poverty
because all of my friends were my neighbors. We were all the same and enjoyed a simple
life and had fun being children. We didn’t have big, fancy houses but we were healthy, happy, and safe. Those intangibles were all that
mattered to me, my siblings, and my friends.
As an adult , my experience is much different
as a homeowner. Now I’m made aware that
there are families that are suffering due to
the severe shortage of housing . The shortage is grossly affecting the health, wellness, and
safety of those families and their communities
That’s a MATTER and I’m determined to have a creative solution. So I purchased an empty
lot in a neighborhood and guess what will
be built? You guessed it, affordable housing !
I need your help to make it more than just a
big dream and a reality for
families in Thomson, Georgia
Here are a few facts:
What is Affordable Housing?
According to the government affordable housing is determined if a family spends no more than 30% of their income to live in that dwelling.
Who is affected?
For every 100 families living in poverty the state of Georgia only has 28 housing units affordable and available to them.
What do we do? The simple answer is to build more homes and THAT solution takes money
to cover the costs of building permits, pay
general contractors and subcontractors, buy
building materials, buy appliances,
establish utilities, and other expenses that
must be paid to create the places families will call home.
Thank you in advance for supporting my
efforts in addressing and providing a solution To a matter affecting so many. ANY AMOUNT of support helps to accomplish the goal.
