Help Montrel Attend North Carolina A&T! #AggiesDo

Hello, Fellow AGGIES!!!

My name is Kaiyah Smith, a proud 2019 graduate of THEE Illustrious North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and I am calling on all of my AGGIE ALUM (especially the AGGIE ENGINEERS) and HBCU ALUM to help me fundraise for a worthy cause.

As a proud alumna, I use every opportunity I have to spread the news about how AMAZING North Carolina A&T State University is. This year I have the privilege of not only having my baby sister begin her college career at NCAT, but I have also recruited my cousin Montrel to join our Aggie Family where he will be majoring in Civil Engineering!!

I couldn't be more proud to have both of them follow in my footsteps to spend the next four years at the best HBCU on the planet. Of course, attending college comes with major financial obligations, especially when you are being raised in a single-parent household. I know all too well the heavy burden that attending college can place on a single mother because I witnessed the same stress when my mother was trying to pay my tuition and her bills while caring for my sister and me. This is why I would like to do all I can to help my aunt fulfill my cousin's dream of graduating from North Carolina A&T.

My cousin Montrel was born and raised in Flint, Michigan which is now well-known because of the Flint Water Crisis that has had a drastic effect on many of the minorities who still reside there. In a city where the odds are stacked so heavily against our young black men, Montrel has spent the last 17 years of his life watching other inner-city youth, fight to stay alive, while seeing others lose their lives to the streets.  In an attempt to defy the odds, Montrel used the lessons he learned from others who made poor choices as his motivation to achieve academic success. He knew that by doing this, it would ultimately pave the way for his future, and the open doors he needed to walk through in order to earn his college degree and give back to his community.

Throughout his life, Montrel has always been a scholar who received numerous awards for high academic distinction. As a graduating Senior at Carmen Ainsworth, Montrel was awarded a plaque for achieving the highest academic honors, earning him gold honor cords and recognized in the local newspaper the for achieving an overall GPA of 3.90! He has done all that he set to do and made so many of us proud, now it is time for him to move on to the next chapter in his life.

While leaving home for the first time can be scary and it comes with many mixed emotions, Montrel has made the ultimate decision to leave his family and loved ones behind to relocate to Greensboro, North Carolina. It is his sincere desire to earn his bachelor's degree so that he can further his learning and live out his dream of becoming a Civil Engineer. This is where you come in!

My aunt is a single mother of two who has done a tremendous job raising her children. Both of them graduated from high school with honors and are now enrolled in college. Her oldest is a graduating Senior at Michigan State University, however, Montrel is an incoming Freshman who is unfortunately classified as an out-of-state student for tuition purposes. With two children in college and tuition due for both my aunt has some serious financial obligations and she is doing all that she can to keep both of them in school.

I am asking for your support in helping me raise money to help offset the costs associated with Montrel attending college out of state. As we Aggies know, there isn't a better place he could be as a young black male majoring in Engineering. North Carolina A&T State University has a lot to offer and because of his commitment to bettering himself, I know he will do well!

At this moment, his need for tuition, meals, and housing is around $33,896.82, of which he has almost half covered. This leaves around $15,000 that is needed in order for him to pay his balance off and remain an Aggie. While I know there is a small window of time before final fees are due, I know the power of prayer and I believe all things are possible with God on your side! I am asking all of my Aggie Alums to help me, help him...WHY?? Because AGGIES DO!

No amount is too great or too small as it will all go towards helping him pay off his account. Thank you in advance for your efforts and support.

Together WE can help Montrel! #NCAT #NCATCOE #HBCULOVE #AGGIESDO
