HELP BABY MADISON TO SEE

Donation protected

Baby Madison is a precious 3 month old who enjoys her mom's singing, cuddles from her dad and kisses from her older brother.  Her bubbly laughter and big smiles melt the hearts of everyone she comes in contact with. She is warm and friendly and likes to clutch the fingers of loved ones who visit. She has an illuminating aura despite the fact that Baby Madison is blind.

Born prematurely at just 31 weeks old and weighing only 3lbs 2oz, Baby Madison spent the first three weeks of her life at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).   Soon after, it was discovered that Baby Madison had a visual impairment in both eyes.

Initially diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a potentially blinding disease caused by the abnormal development of retinal blood vessels in premature infants who receive oxygen therapy.  Her doctors performed emergency surgery to alleviate Plus Disease, when the blood vessels of the retina become too enlarged and twisted, indicating a worsening of the disease.

Unfortunately, the traction from the scar produced by bleeding and an increased blood pressure resulted in an unsuccessful surgery and the retina detached from the wall of the eyes leaving Baby Madison blind.

However, after further tests and analysis from a Specialist, she has now been diagnosed with Familial Exudative Vitreoretinopathy (FEVR), a hereditary condition that affects the eye by preventing blood vessels from forming at the edges of the retina and Congenital Glaucoma,  a rare pediatric condition caused by incorrect development of the eye's drainage system before birth and damaging of the optic nerves.

Lifelong blindness is now a numbing possibility for Baby Madison unless her family is able to seek advanced pediatric care for her.  Although modern advances in medicine with new drugs and clinical trials for FEVR have proven successful, Jamaica is not equipped with the expertise nor equipment necessary to treat such a rare genetic condition and as such the UHWI has referred her to a specialized Eye Institute in Canada.

As a result of the current Covid19 pandemic her family has lost a significant portion of their income and are unable to finance the US$20,000 needed to fly Baby Madison to Canada for corrective treatment.

We are kindly seeking your assistance for this worthy cause by DONATING, SHARING and PRAYING for Baby Madison and her family.

Thank you for caring...
