Stonechild Chiefstick's children are raising money to build a monument in memory of their father. It's called HEALING OF THE PEOPLE and will be a permanent healing space at Waterfront Park in Poulsbo, Washington where Stoney died on July 3, 2019. Stoney was murdered by a police officer at a fireworks celebration that used to be a joyful tradition for the Chiefstick family.
The Children would like to integrate a waterfall and fountain to honor their father. Water is sacred. Water is life. We want this monument to be a project that includes art from both a Suquamish Tribal Elder Carved and a S'Klallam Tribal Elder Carved These artists will represent the unity between our tribal people. Poulsbo putting this monument of indigenous representation on Suquamish Ancestral land in the City will show much needed respect towards the indigenous people who reside in the surrounding areas.
There is a long history of Tribal people not being respected by Poulsbo residents. But there's a growing number of locals who are tired of these old ways. It's time we heal the decades of hurt and join together to support this monument of healing.
We would like this project to be supported by the Poulsbo City Council, the Suquamish Tribal Council, and S'Klallam Tribal Council. The three Identities coming together with Stoney's children and thier mother a suquamish tribal member to make this beautiful project become reality will bring the much needed healing to its beginning. We'd like to see generous donations from business and community leaders, especially from the Port of Poulsbo (whose commissioner recently vandalized Stoney's memorial), the Poulsbo Police Officers Association, and City Council as a show of respect and unity. It's time we have healing between the settler and native communities. Its time the city of Poulsbo acknowledged the land thier town resides has a rich tribal history of the suquamish people.
We would like this monument to be an indigenous representation at the Waterfront Park . The park, where Stoney's temporary memorial of candles, photos and spiritual objects has been repeatedly desecrated. The park is just a ways up the beach from what once was a Suquamish fishing village. In spite of its history, the park is dressed up in a Nordic/Viking theme only representing the settlers with no recognition of the living native culture of the area.
We would like the space to contain the indigenous art a waterfall with small man made creek leading to a fountain that will have salmon to represent the village that once was a part of the area. Our vision is to have seating along it all for Poulsbo City events. The monument will feature a story of the fishing village. Also engraving or a plaque dedicating it in honor of Stoney. We would like this to make the park more beautiful and welcoming. We must work to heal the broken relations the death of Stoney has brought to the surface. Tribal people need the City of Poulsbo to make an effort in rebuilding the relationship that has been destroyed.

The Family of Stonechild Chiefstick deserve Healing. All people deserve healing. So lets take these steps and build a peaceful place of tranquility for all to enjoy smiles and good feelings for many years to come.
