Cook Boys College Fund

My sister Heidi Cook and her boys Owen, Noah and Oliver recently lost the most important person in their lives... their husband and father, Earl Cook.

Its extremely difficult to think about what a tremendous loss this is for them and our family. Many of us have considered what we want our legacy to be. We have thought about how our friends will remember us. Our children. Our spouse. We have made resolutions to live more in that light of trying to portray who we really are, in an effort to leave our mark on the world and to be remembered. After all, we are only here for what seems to be the blink of an eye.

I saw Earl live his life in the light of what many of us only strive for. "I should spend more time with my children and wife." "I should take my boys fishing." "I should lend an ear to a friend who needs it, or try to improve the life of someone who is struggling." "Maybe today I will take the boys out and..." I could go on, but I'm sure you see where I am heading. Earl lived his life in a way that most of us only aspire to. He put his family first in every moment of every day. He taught his children how to be compassionate, played sports, went fishing, played video games, listened when needed, and was present. Every day of his life. He didn't make excuses. He didn't let projects or chores get in the way of creating memories with his family. He just continued to put his family and friends above everything else. Every day.

Over the past few days, I have found myself thinking once again about what I want my own legacy to be. How do I want my family, friends and community to remember me? Each time, I am left with the same answer. "I want to be more like Earl."

If Earl ever did wonder if the way he was living his life would have an impact on someone's life, I can say without the slightest shred of a doubt - yes - you have definitely made an impact. To say Earl's passing will leave a void in the lives of his family is an understatement. That has become abundantly clear as so many people have reached out asking how they can help Earl's wife and boys.

It is not in my sister's nature to ask for help. She, like Earl is giving in nature and devoted to making the lives of the people around her better. It is on her behalf that I am asking you to consider contributing to this Go Fund Me page.  All donations will be put towards the post secondary education of Owen, Noah and Oliver.

For those of you who are able to, on behalf of my sister and the boys, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you. Thank you for making an impact.
