Wellness Fund for Santa Cruz COREmmunity

On August 17th, Jaimi was alerted that a lightning strike had started a fire in the vicinity of her home in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Soon after, she was told to start her evacuation plans. Due to the low humidity and a record-setting heatwave in the area, the fire has exploded into a monstrous, growing 80,000-acre fire. To make things worse firefighting resources are limited due to the sheer number of fires currently in California. As a native to the Santa Cruz Mountains (born and raised), Jaimi's heart was broken when she saw the flames engulf her neighborhood with over 200 feet high flames and smoke so thick she could hardly see. Jaimi, her husband, Beau, and their dog, Oso, were evacuated, leaving behind their redwood home lovingly purchased only a couple of years ago. Jaimi's immediate family members have also been displaced and looking for housing. This includes her dad, Mike Ellison (co-founder of Santa Cruz CORE), her mom, grandmother (age 93), sister (co-owner of Santa Cruz CORE), brother-in-law, and niece (age 5). They are all evacuated safely but are (hopefully temporarily) homeless.
With the help of your monetary contributions, Jaimi hopes to lock in a house within a commutable distance to Santa Cruz for herself and her immediate family to live in (potential locations include Corralitos, Aptos, San Jose, or other nearby areas that remain unaffected). We also need to support our community. Jaimi has employees who are now displaced as well as clients and neighbors of Bonny Doon. The funds will go toward helping everyone get housing and supplies to live like clothes, hygiene materials, food, water, gas, and all other things necessary in a crisis. Your help will cover the costs of displacement and supply as many families in COREmmunity as possible with these essentials.
12 years ago Jaimi started Santa Cruz CORE Fitness + Rehab, an integrative wellness center in downtown Santa Cruz. Over those years, the company has become an integral part of the community and a pillar of the local health and wellness industry. Jaimi and the team have created partnerships, hosted events, made donations, and helped many people achieve their optimal health. Jaimi herself is also a business coach and has helped over 200, mostly local, businesses secure over $17 million in much-needed relief funding during the COVID crisis.
It is at this time that with a heavy heart, we ask you to help Jaimi's family and COREmmunity in any way you can so that they can be safe and healthy in order to continue to serve our community. They are currently staying at various friends' houses, essentially couch surfing, until the end of the month at which time they will need to have a new option secured. We are also asking for help for our displaced medical clientele. Many of our services are medically necessary and we have a growing list of patients that need their treatment covered during this time. After getting hit hard by COVID we have exhausted what we can do for our community and are now asking for help. If you are one of those clients, reach out and we will add you to the list. In the event we have money left over after putting a deposit/rent down for a house and helping the COREmmunity, the money will be donated to the Bonny Doon Lightning Fire Wellness Fund.

**UPDATE** As the CZU August Lightning Complex fire situation has developed and evolved, Jaimi's and her families' homes are secure and safe for now.
After working with firefighters and neighbors alike, to secure the situation as much as possible in the Bonny Doon community, Jaimi has decided that this crowdfunded money should go to this community's health instead of a home. After this crisis, Jaimi's goal remains the same: to keep her community healthy. She thanks you all for the gracious donations to this Gofundme that will now go to help those who continue to be displaced. This fund will now cover the costs of health services from the Santa Cruz CORE community of practitioners for evacuees.
