Key Amba Elementary School Renovation

My wife and I are organizing fundraising events to support a local public school in my wife’s hometown of Gonder, Ethiopia, which has been damaged over many years of service. The school (which is called Key Amba Elementary School) has 8 classrooms which serve a total of 560 students from Kindergarten to 8th Grade. The school has not been renewed or repaired in decades, and is now in bad condition which requires significant work. The youth in my wife’s community have been discussing this as being a need for several months now, and my wife and her friends plan to contribute their time and knowledge to supervise the renovation process. We are now asking for volunteers and donors to support us in any way they can. Material cost is the biggest issue now, since the cost of the work required to improve the school is much more than what we are individually able to afford. However, we believe with your support we can achieve our goal and get the school ready for students by the next school year.

We have posted a video of the school in its current state and our proposed design so that you can see its condition and the need for repairs. We had previously created a site on a different platform, but due to difficulties experienced by donors living in different countries, are going to give GoFundMe a try. We began this project with an initial goal of $7,359, of which we have already raised $3,100. As a result, we have amended the goal on this platform to $5,000, as this would provide us with the funds needed to complete the first phase of the project, which is the foundation and reinforcement of one new classroom block.

The site will be a work in progress, and we will provide regular updates on the progress of our fundraising, as well as the specific works we will undertake to renovate the school.
