Please Help Save Oscar the Therapy Dog

Donation protected

Oscar update: After being told Oscar was in remission, we have now found out that his current treatment is no longer effective and his cancer has returned. The oncologist has recommended we switch to a different chemotherapy treatment consisting of injections of L'asparaginase and Lomustine pills, as well as Prednisone. We had one of the injections at our last appointment. They said they have shown some success with this treatment.

We are trying to keep positive that we can return Oscar to remission. He is such a trooper and is always excited to go for his treatments with his tail wagging. Unfortunately, due to Covid we cannot go into the facility with him while he has his treatment. I would prefer to hold him while he gets his treatment, but I have to rely on the very kind people at VCA Hospital to take care of him.

Oscar is suffering some side effects of the chemotherapy, his coat is coming out in handfuls and we can see the spots on his skin, he is also nauseous quite a lot so he is taking a lot of pills to combat all of these things.

We will continue to post updates as we hope for better results.

Thank you for all your support as we continue to try and save our little boy.

Oscar. Oscar is our sweet little boy, who today was diagnosed with lymphoma. He is just two years old. This has been a complete shock and we had no idea, we just took him in for a routine vet visit.

Oscar and his big brother Harley are both Newfoundlands, big, gentle giants. They are such great boys and perfect for their work as therapy dogs. We work with The Go Team Airport, Crisis, and Therapy Dogs teams around the country, doing fantastic work helping people deal with emotional issues, stress, and other situations where the love of a dog is the only thing that works. We meet with people in senior centers, dental clinics for children, schools and colleges during stressful times, during crisis situations such as Saugus High School, and anywhere else we are needed. Even now we have continued our work, maybe not in person, but via Zoom calls with people that need us.

We would love for Oscar to continue the great work he has been doing helping people, and now more than ever is a time of need for the community and the world.

We have to make very quick decisions about treatment, as we have been told he will have less than a month to live otherwise. Chemotherapy seems to be our only option and it will have to start now and be intense. Any funds we receive will be put towards these medical bills so that we can get him into remission.

As I write this I have a huge lump in my chest, I am terrified for my little baby, and I am shaking like a leaf that we will not be able to have him in our lives much longer.

I know this is a terrible time to ask for help. Our world has been so affected by Covid-19 and so many people who would love to help cannot, but if there is any way you might be able to or know someone that can, please pass this along and we cannot thank you enough for your support.

We hope to see this beautiful little boy into remission with chemotherapy treatment and back to bringing joy and love as a support dog for not only us but so many others as well.

With so much love from the bottom of our hearts,
Oscar's family.
