Chris’ Project by Band of Builders
Hey
My name’s Tilly & I form part of a group of volunteers that make up the Band of Builders Charity.
In total, there’s just short of 10,000 volunteers in our group who are affectionately dubbed the #BOBarmy. We give up our time for free to help tradespeople & their families in their times of need in the best way we know how... Practically!
By transforming the homes of beneficiaries, it allows us to provide them with a permanent improvement to the day to day quality of their lives, whilst also being supportive of their practical needs & emotional well-being.
Our next project starts on 10th October 2020 for a gentleman named Chris Joy, a Plasterer from Norwich, who at the age of 40 was diagnosed with Cerebellur Ataxia, a rare condition which only affects 10,000 people in the UK. His symptoms include loss of coordination, double vision, tinnitus, balance issues, speech issues & is now a wheelchair user 50% of the time. Ataxia is a progressive condition & whilst some forms are treatable, for most cases there is still no cure. Ataxia effects Chris’ coordination & balance which means that he is unable to access his property unaided as the pathway & drive are uneven. Band of Builders will overhaul his driveway so he doesn’t need to rely on his family & can regain his independence.
Although all the BOB Army volunteers & Charity Trustees work for free, we still need to buy materials to make these projects happen. The average cost of completing each project is over £10,000.00! We are completely self-funded & 100% rely on donations to make these projects happen, so any financial support you can provide is massively appreciated.
As my construction skills suck, I concentrate my efforts on fundraising & occasionally helping out with clean up duty & feeding the troops.
I’ve set myself a really big challenge of raising £100k for the Charity over the coming year (anything’s possible with the power of the internet, right?!) & will do this through completing a series of challenges & hosting fundraising events.
Watch this space for details of my first sponsored event & please Please PLEASE give what YOU can, so WE can help those that really need it, when they need it!
Thanks so much!!
Love & Light
Tilly xx
