Fund Maui Hawaii 'Keiki' Student's Education

We are in a very diverse school where our students are a mix of Hawaiian, Tongan, Filipino, and a large community of ELL students. Now with the new regulations due to the coronavirus, we have to consider distance learning which is 100% online teaching where students learn on a computer at home.


This new method of teaching our keiki (children) using full-time distance learning with future plans for a hybrid teaching will depend on the number of individuals infected with this virus in Hawaii. This has created a new and challenging transition for many teachers.


Fortunately, prior to my career in education, I worked as the Art/Marketing Director of the television station WB18-WKCF, and before this, I was a graphic designer for Florida Today Newspaper-USA Today.  With this background, I am a great resource for all the teachers at Kihei Elementary. 


I am now using my skills in video production, video editing, cartoon animation, and visual arts with project-based learning to help create educational videos for our school, teachers, and administration. I have currently been creating educational videos, including the new safety and health guidelines videos, for this Elementary School. I am creating these videos using my own, very old equipment. 


This request for funds to purchase equipment is crucial as I create more educational videos for grades K-5. I will need an external hard drive, one which includes a thunderbolt processor for quicker video processing. I will need a newer camera as mine is now 5 years old which is very outdated resulting in poor quality video footage. 


Since these videos are for elementary school students, I would like to use my skills as an illustrator to create fun and engaging cartoon animations for these educational videos. Such programs run on an iPad Pro 12.9 using an Apple Pen which is also included in equipment needs. I will also need six 32GB Sandisk which will supply two Sandisk per grade level to be used when filming our teachers as they are teaching lessons. 


Finally, the miscellaneous cost for graphics images, video clips, and 1-year subscription to the Adobe Graphics Suite, will be utilized for any images or clips we cannot acquire on our own. These clips and graphics will be used for educational science videos, social studies, ELA, Visual Arts, and much more.
