Brooklyn For Black Lives (BK4BL) : Organizing

We are a group of organizers based in Brooklyn that have formed a strong community in support of the BLM Movement. Our purpose is to fight and destabilize systemic racism enforced by the white power/ white dominated society and government within New York: The NYPD. While our focus when demonstrating/protesting is police brutality; we acknowledge that there are other forms of protest in which we can engage to change the station of those disenfranchised in our community. Which is why we put our time and effort into organizing community based events to provide education and supplies to the Black and Brown communities of Brooklyn.

COMMUNITY FRIDGE/ FOOD PANTRY: FEED BROOKLYN INITIATIVE
We are putting Community Fridges in Brooklyn. We, as Brooklyn Community Organizers, aim to promote and assist our Black and Brown communities in Brooklyn with programs that provide aid in areas of: food insecurity and healthy food options within the community. One viable and effective way we have found to provide healthy food options and heal food insecurity, is installing community fridges through out the neighborhoods of Brooklyn. These fridges will be an internal support and effort by the community; meaning it will be maintained by members of the neighborhood which it is installed so as to help the neighborhood thrive internally. Scheduling of fridge maintenance, food stocking and general up keep will be initiated by our team of organizers but eventually sustained by the members of the community. We'd like to also  hold virtual food workshops and give out information on recipes and healthy  options to bolster this initiative. By doing this we can help guide our Black and Black family to better and healthier living through healthier food options. Promoting healthy eating will in turn help people achieve healthy living, which is our ultimate goal.

-Paper togo containers (for organizers to portion out food received from Restaurants)

COMMUNITY BUILDING
Our mission is to empower the  community of Brooklyn by giving them the structure and tools they need for sustainable community building, In order for us to do this we need to help the communities of Brooklyn with supplies and a strong consistent presence.  We would like to do Community Clean Ups twice a month, to establish a regular sense of commitment and dedication to the betterment of each neighborhood we visit. In addition to these community actions we also aim to empower the community through community workshops and protesting actions. We have done school drives to garner funds and physical supplies/material for the Brooklyn youth going back to school during COVID-19. We will also have clothing, food and toy drives during the fall and winter months.
