Porterville Historical Museum has been committed to preserving the local history of Porterville, as well as Tulare County at large since its founding in 1965. Much of that history in the form of newspaper, microfilm, and written record was lost or damaged with the arson of the Porterville Public Library.  With the microfilm rolls being the only items to survive the fire, the library has entrusted us with the recovery, preservation, and digitization of these historical relics as well as their storage until a new library can be constructed. Additionally, local photographer, author, and historian Jeff Edwards has graciously donated his entire life’s work consisting of a variety of photographs, negatives, slides, and documents to be digitized, preserved, and stored indefinitely. To this end, we will also need to invest in fire-proof filing cabinets to more completely ensure their continued survival.
