Rushville Animal Shelter Care

Donation protected
On Friday, September 4, 2020 we were called to assist in the seizure of 30 ponies, donkeys, horses, and a bull due to alleged neglect. We are unable to provide any additional information on the situation, HOWEVER, WE DO NEED HELP IN THE COST ASSOCIATED TO PROVIDE FOOD, BOARDING, AND VETERINARY CARE!

The donkey and the horse pictured are only 2 of the many who are in need of immediate veterinarian care. Two of the 30 were already deceased on arrival, leaving us with 28 needing immediate relocation and care.

As anyone who has cared for these species knows the cost is substantial and beyond what we have readily available in our donation account. We will be responsible for all costs initially. There is no special type of funding set aside by the state or county for this type of court case and ultimately becomes the responsibility of the rescues, shelters, and kind-hearted community members.

Our hope is those that are reading this post will step up and help lessen the financial burden we are facing. Until then, we will be diverting all of our already critically low donation funds to care for this group of animals, which may mean we will find ourselves unable to provide all the veterinarian care we already do for any incoming cats or dogs.

The Rush County Humane Society has committed $5,000 to get us started in the cost of care. We are looking at LEAST at $10,500 for 30 days of food and boarding. Veterinary cost is unknown at this time, but will certainly be a substantial cost as well.

At this time we are only able to accept cash or check for donations, we do not have approval as a city department to use any of the electronic funding applications (such as GoFundMe). Although, if you are interested in doing crowd funding for us, please let us know so we may share your effort on our page. We can accept supplies, such as hay and horse feed, also. All donations can be delivered or mailed to us at 650 Vansickle Street, Rushville, IN 46173.

We are not 501c3 designated, but if you are interested in the tax benefit of your donation, you may contact the Rush County Humane Society for additional information. We do request that any donations given to us through the Humane Society specifically state for the Rushville Animal Shelter. You can reach someone by calling the Animal Hospital of Rushville at [phone redacted].

If you are unable to help by offering money or supplies you can help in the following ways:

❤️Share our post! The more exposure, the more people aware who can help.

Be our cheerleaders! We will need the support of our community to weather one of the hardest parts of our job.

Offer a donation above and beyond your adoption fee! We spend on average $78 per cat and $110 per dog. Anything to help cover the cost of your new pet, helps us with the cost of care of all these horses, ponies, donkeys, and bull.
