Altru's VI2 Illuminators for Love Beyond Walls

Want to join us in making a difference? Altru Center’s Virtual Integration 2 class is raising money to benefit Love Beyond Walls. We are a group of 15 individuals who are on a journey to grow our leadership skills, have our best lives and create the world we want to see. One of our first goals was to  impact an organization that most closely aligned with our shared vision; we the VI2 team stand at cause for a world that is united, collaborative, peaceful and loving.

We were truly inspired by the heart and undying dedication  of Terence Lester and his wife Cecelia Lester as well as their innovation and hands that DO. Their “Love Sinks In” campaign, was hearted, timely and relevant slated to set up portable wash stations for homeless during the global COVID-19 Pandemic. We want to
partner with them to bring portable handwashing stations to the most high traffic homeless areas across our nation. We also believe that, everyone deserves to stay healthy, especially during this time.

More information about Love Beyond Walls 

In 2004, Terence and Cecilia gathered two trash bags filled with clothes and walked through the streets of downtown Atlanta.
 
 
On Auburn Ave in Atlanta, GA, Terence and Cecilia encountered a homeless woman.
“Do you know anyone who needs clothes or shoes?” Cecilia asked.
The lady immediately responded, “Of course, I need some right now!”
 
When this warm-hearted lady rummaged through the two bags, she came across a pair of black shoes, and started jumping up and down with excitement. “I just prayed for a pair of shoes last night, and God answered.”
 
Terence and Cecilia looked at each other, and in that moment—the concept of “Love Beyond Walls” was born. On the ride home, they discussed ways to mobilize others to join them in moving past the walls that divide people, and to take love to people in creative ways. That day, they both became compassionate about work in the trenches, and the desire to love people where they were.
 
In 2013, Terence formalized the concept of Love Beyond Walls as more than just an idea by incorporating as a nonprofit and living as homeless person in the heart of the City of Atlanta. 

Every second that passes, something happens! A child is abused, a homeless person goes without a meal, a family gets evicted, a student drops out of high school, a community experiences a natural disaster, and the list goes on and on. We exist to make known the stories that are experienced, but never heard about. By using technology, film, and service we aim to raise awareness about stories that need relief, and mobilize an army of people who would dare to get involved in those stories and care!
