Educate Ya is starting a fund to address the current needs of our staff and teachers whose incomes are being adversely impacted by COVID-19. With most  classes and events  being canceled or postponed to reduce the spread of COVID-19, people who make income fully implementing programs through outreach, presentations, trainings and classes are losing their means to support their well-being.

 We are asking for funding to enable us to continue our vital community development work, and continue providing the services described in Our Mission and in The Founder’s Vision. We have five (5) programs, which are successfully run and implemented by volunteers and through peer to peer participation. These programs offer cross-cultural engagement and education, preventive health instruction paired with outreach, and youth leadership development. We focus this programming on Latinos specifically, but also support and integrate the help of non-Latino volunteers and participants.
 

The Health Educators Program tackles the important issue of health in the local Latino community through presentations focused on proactive health measures and HIV/AIDS-STIS prevention. The content is tailored to health issues common to Latinos living in the U.S.. The Intercambio Program partners English-speaking tutor/volunteers with Latino Spanish-speaking participants. Both members of the partnership receive the benefit of practicing their language skills with a native speaker, while also engaging in cross-cultural education in a context that fosters understanding and mutual support. The AVANZA Leadership Development Program for young adults, ages 18-35, promotes the meaningful participation of Latino youth in civic life and community leadership. With this goal as the guiding principle, a cohort of Latino young people receives trainings on civic engagement provided by active leaders in their own age group and experienced older leaders coming from similar cultural backgrounds. The Cultural Awareness Program provides a safe space to learn and share about Latino diversity in the U.S. and also mainstream U.S. culture through workshops and collaborative projects.
 

In the 20 years since the founding of the organization, we have been able to support the cost of our programming partly through grants and donations provided every year by our former students and individuals that believe in our mission, but mainly through the fees we charge for various useful and enriching services that we provide. Our services include, Spanish and English classes, translation services, and language immersion programs. We collaborate with language schools in various cities and countries throughout Latin America to provide a wide variety of language immersion programs available in almost every Latin American country. Although most of the services we provide are carried out by dedicated volunteers, a minimum number of program coordinators is necessary to carry out the important work of managing programs, conducting outreach, and providing guidance to volunteers. For this reason, we require funding to hire a minimum of two (2) Coordinators, an Executive Director, and an Assistant to the Director.
