Help Mom of 3 with Cervical Cancer

Pierina de Sosa is an amazing woman. Brenna, Mateo, and Lucas are beloved by their community. Teachers have described them as smart and compassionate kids. Our mother has faced many hardships in her life, but she’s still here standing strong. At the age of 21 she traveled to a new land in hopes of providing a better life for her children. She made the move from Uruguay to New Jersey in 2001. She did not speak the native language or know her way around but she was determined to build a life for us here. Unfortunately at the age of 26 she was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. The chemical imbalance in her brain made her feel hopeless. She battled with her mental health for a long time before the doctors were able to find the medicine that made her better. It was hard for us to see her like that because we were young and did not understand why she was different. After a couple of years of her being in and out of the psychiatric ward she started to thrive. She was able to raise her children and guide us down the right path. She became very involved in our lives. She got my brother into football which has opened up so many doors for him. He’s got a very bright future ahead of him on the football team at Caldwell University. He has almost a full ride. He’s loved by all those who meet him. He’s an amazing student athlete and such a great person all around. He’s broken many records in Harrison and in the state. We have been ecstatic at how well she’s been these last 10 years. This August my mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The news was devastating. For the past year she has seen 2 doctors for pain in her pelvic area, she said the pain would radiate to her legs but no one was able to tell her what she had. Last month we rushed her to the emergency room at the University Hospital in Newark because he was in agonizing pain. She could not sit or stand. She was convinced it was a sprain or something having to do with the muscle. Never in a million years could we have imagined it was cancer. The doctors did a pelvic exam on her and became worried that she might bleed out on the table. They were ready to give her a blood transfusion from how much blood she was losing. They decided to have her emitted and run more exams on her. In that time they diagnosed her with stage 2a2 cervical cancer. Luckily they were able to find it in time, It hasn’t spread anywhere else. She is on her third week of chemo and radiation therapy. We are happy she’s responding well to the treatment and in a week she will be getting ready for the Brachytherapy. Like I said, she’s a strong woman and wants to fight this with everything she’s got! I created this GoFundMe because she is uninsured and unable to work because she is too weak at the moment. She hasn’t been working since March 14th due to Covid-19. We know that these are hard times for everyone. We are asking for your support in the form of donations to help our mom with the current financial strain. Right now her partner is the sole provider of the household and he is struggling to keep up with bills and other expenses. Anything you can give is greatly appreciate. If you cannot donate anything please share this. It could make a big difference in our lives. Thank you for taking the time to read our mom’s story. Please keep our family in your prayers ❤️
