Providing Care for Refugees in Greece

Donation protected
Millions of refugees living in camps live in cramped, crowded, unsanitary conditions and do not have access to adequate health care. As such, they are one of the world's most vulnerable populations especially now, during a global pandemic.

We are currently fundraising to provide PPE for refugees and healthcare workers, and to help deploy our COVID tracking system in Moria, Europe's largest refugee camp, in Lesvos, Greece. We're asking for your help, to help improve health care and to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks for refugees.

Frontida Records is a non-profit startup created by students at the University of Southern California studying global health, business, computer science, neuroscience, technology, and design with a purpose of improving health care for refugees.

Our team traveled to Camp Moria, Europe's largest refugee camp on the island of Lesvos, Greece twice this past year. The camp is extremely overcrowded, housing 20,000 refugees fleeing war-torn countries, violence and persecution, in a space meant for 3,000 people. After speaking directly with clinicians, we learned that refugees weren't getting the medical treatment they deserved, and that there was a need for a centralized health documentation system.

Currently, paper health records are used in Greek refugee camps, and this, coupled with a large number of patients who need care each day, leads to disorganization, unreliable data, misdiagnosis, and fragmented treatment for refugees. So, we created Frontida Records, an electronic health record (EHR) system to help health providers in refugee camps, and to help improve refugee patients' health outcomes.

The first cases of COVID-19 were recently detected in Camp Moria, and on September 9, a fire blazed through the camp, burning everything down. Upwards of 13,000 people lost their homes and belongings, and are now struggling to access medical care, food, water, and shelter. All health clinics and medical records also burned down, leaving physicians without resources to treat people. Clinicians are currently scrambling to provide healthcare to those who are injured, track and treat COVID-19 patients, and prevent the spread of disease during this crisis.

Thousands of families are currently living without shelter in dangerous conditions, and with a recent spike in COVID-19 cases, keeping them safe is of the utmost importance.

We're asking for your help.

Our goal is to raise 10k to provide PPE for refugees and healthcare workers, and to help deploy our COVID tracking platform in Moria, to help monitor and prevent COVID-19 outbreaks.

Join us to help empower our medical heroes in Greece and to help keep refugees safe. Help provide urgent care where it's needed most.

Thank you.
