Help the mother of Ryan White, Jeanne White-Ginder

Donation protected
This campaign is a campaign to raise funds to help Jeanne White-Ginder, mother of Ryan White, and to help preserve the legacy of this family that has given so much to the world.  These funds will be used to address some immediate needs for Jeanne as well as to help support her work and legacy as a tireless advocate.

Those that have the privilege of knowing Jeanne know she would never ask for help, but she needs our support right now.  She is not one to ever complain, but this year has been incredibly difficult for her.  She has faced the unexpected loss of most of her income now that she is unable to travel and is not able to continue speaking engagements due to COVID.

And on September 15th she said goodbye to her husband and love of her life, Roy Ginder, after a long battle with kidney failure.

In her time of grief, she is also dealing with the reality that in addition to losing most of her income, she has now lost Roy's income.  This, together with mounting medical bills and additional expenses maintaining her home now that Roy is unable to help is an unfortunate struggle for her.

Your contributions will help provide immediate relief for Jeanne during this difficult time.  We want her to focus on grieving the loss of her husband and, in time, focus her time an energy to her important work and legacy.

We wanted to create this campaign when Roy got sick in May, but true to form Jeanne said, "No; there are other people that need help more than I do and I wouldn't want to take it away from them."  Even in her own time of struggle she is mindful that this is a difficult time for others.  If you are reading this and are someone that is struggling, please know that sharing alone or just sending a message of love and support is a campaign gift that we very much appreciate!

Ryan White only lived for 18 years.  A life gone too soon, Ryan changed the world with his humility, grace, compassion, and maturity well beyond his years.

Ryan’s life changed one week before Christmas in 1984 with the news that he had contracted HIV/AIDS from tainted blood products used to treat his hemophilia.  Although doctors gave him only six months to live, Ryan's outlook was positive and he was determined to live a relatively normal life.

Little did he know then that his fight to stay alive was only the beginning of the adversity he and his family would face.  Ryan was barred from attending middle school because of AIDS and had to fight several court battles for the right to attend school—a right he ultimately won.   His crusade to remain in school captured the nation's attention and forever changed our view of AIDS and those living with it.  Ryan truly changed the world in the five and a half years he lived with HIV/AIDS.

Shortly after Ryan died, and at the request of Senators Kennedy and Hatch, Jeanne selflessly turned her grief into action though an impassioned and relentless pursuit of justice, which led to the passage of the Ryan White CARE Act.  Touted as one of the finest pieces of legislation to come out of the US Senate, it provides lifesaving treatment and prevention services to nearly half of all people living with HIV in the United States.

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Ryan’s death and the 30th Anniversary of the Ryan White CARE Act.  Today, his name is an invitation to enjoy life, a call for understanding, and a cry for continued medical and scientific advancement.

The impact Ryan has had on the world is, no doubt, in part due to the continued work of his mother, Jeanne White-Ginder.  She has spent 30 years building on her son’s legacy, reluctantly and humbly carrying the torch after his passing.  She has continued to push for the rights for all to be cared for by sharing her difficult journey in such a public way.  True to form, she starts all of her speeches saying, “I’m just a mom.”  True, she is a mom to Ryan White and Andrea White, but she is also a mom to so many more.  She is truly an American hero.

Over the last 30 years, we have made great progress. But Jeanne’s work and Ryan’s legacy is far from over.  Help us help Jeanne and let's give back to a family that has given so much!
