CHV Flood Victims 2020 - Approx 20 families

On September 10, 2020 a massive flash flood swept through much of the DC region and our Town of Cheverly was hit especially hard. We have as many as 20 families who experienced damaged to their homes and vehicles. Most have had no luck with any insurance help and we are coming together as a town to help our neighbors with their urgent needs.
In addition to cosmetic damages, such as drywall and carpet, families experienced structural damage, loss of retaining walls, damage to basement slabs and foundations. They also have the huge cost of to get the water dried out and to make sure there is no mold, before they can think about rebuilding. They also will have significant replacement costs for items such as appliances, (washer/dryer & refrigerators/ freezers) hot water heaters, and personal belongings.

Please contribute generously as this fund, as it will be available to ALL the families to meet their needs. The more we raise, the more we can help!
The funds will be collected and distributed in collaboration with the Saint Ambrose Saint Vincent De Paul Society , who manage a local food bank and meets the needs of families with financial challenges in our region. Funds will be distributed to families on an as needed bases, by paying the bills of vendors and contractors directly. (pls note Darrell Matics listed above as "Beneficiary" is the Treasurer of the SVdP, apologies for any confusion.)
One additional way to help --- Cheverly United Methodist Church has agreed to receive and distribute gift card donations for the flood victims. Please drop off gift cards from: grocery stores (Aldi, Wegmans, etc) or Home Improvement Stores (Lowes, Home Depot) only. Gift cards can be dropped off to Pastor Lillian at the Church office or ***even easier***you can purchase electronic gift cards and have them emailed to the church at Cheverly at chevelryumc dot org. Once received, Pastor Lillian will print the E-Card and distribute to families.
One additional note, Cheverly CERT has encouraged families with the most extensive damage to do their own Go Fund Me drives. At least one family has set that up . We will make sure to circulate those links our the community as they come up, and this Fund will serve for those who do not have their own link, because they prefer to stay private. Please be generous!
