San Diego’s homeless and underserved community is most vulnerable during these uncertain times. Our organization, Homeless HEAL, is working towards ensuring these vulnerable populations can protect themselves against the pandemic.
Homeless HEAL: Health and Empowerment Across Learning (a UC San Diego student run organization established in 2016) works to provide resources and health-based education to the underserved populations within the greater San Diego area. These communities have been even more endangered since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to lessen potential health risks these populations face by donating masks, liquid bottled soaps, and hand gloves to local San Diego homeless and underserved shelters and facilities. Besides GoFundMe’s transaction fee of 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation, we will be using the entirety of the funds towards care packages that will provide underserved communities with protective gear and hygiene supplies.
As future health professionals, we value the importance of prioritizing our health to ensure that there is less spread of the virus.
We understand that many of you may be facing your own unique battles during the COVID-19 crisis and you may be unable to make a monetary donation at this time, and that’s OKAY! To support our efforts in a different way, we ask that you instead share this on your social media platforms and forward our GoFundMe link to your friends and family so that others may donate and share as well!
