Helping a Friend Rebuild After a Tragedy

As-Salamu Alaikum (Peace be Upon You),
I’m starting this for one of my dearest friends, Sayra Asrar, who lost her beloved husband tragically to the Kern River during a family trip in August 2019. Shezhad Khan went on a river rafting trip with his brothers-in-law and nephews. It was during this trip when Shez was swept away by a current in the Kern River. A group of family, friends, and volunteers formed a search and rescue team and for days intensely searched for Shez. They hired drone flyers, divers, and other local professionals in hopes of finding him. Sadly, Shez was found days later and the Kern River had taken his life. Since then the family has asked that more caution signs be placed at the river so no one else loses their loved ones in this way.

Sayra was left with two daughters under the age of five and was forced to move forward without her companion. It breaks my heart to see her raising her two young daughters without their loving father. I want this fundraiser to be a means for her to rebuild her life. Ideally, I would have loved to have started this at the time of the tragedy but it was a sensitive time and the situation did not allow for it. I know that I am emotionally limited with what I can do for Sayra as the emptiness she feels is something I cannot even try to fill but my goal is for her to feel a bit of financial ease.

I am grateful for Sayra’s loving family and in-laws who have continued to support her whole-heartedly. The family has never asked for financial assistance from anyone and still doesn’t. This is something I want to do independently of them without their knowledge. As a community we witnessed a terrible tragedy and countless people have reached out to me asking what they can do. My answer was always to just pray for everyone impacted by this. As I continued to pray for her, my heart led me to start this campaign. At first, I wanted it to be anonymous but that did not work as people started questioning the legitimacy of the account so I had to become transparent.

Please help me in supporting this beautiful family during this extremely difficult time with strength and perseverance. I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donations and I pray your reward is with God.
