Rehabilitative Shelters for Women in Central Asia

We are raising funds as part of a grassroots (bottom-up) effort to support the operational needs of rehabilitative women's shelters across Central Asia. Women's shelters, like the 'Hope Center', are much needed spaces of reprieve and healing for countless women fleeing from domestic or intimate partner violence, human trafficking and extreme hardship. Shelters such as these provide much needed medical and psychological care, temporary housing as well as legal advocacy for marginalized women lacking adequate support systems in their own communities. They are almost entirely self-run and self-funded, receiving little to no assistance from local governments that do not prioritize women's health or recognize the severity of pressing issues such as domestic violence and self-harm.

Such shelters are few and far between in this part of the world and committed organizers on the ground need our support. The collective sisterhood and mutual aid emerging in and around such spaces is worth cultivating and supporting. In fact, most of those involved in day-to-day shelter services are survivors and were themselves once in need of similar support. Funds gathered as part of this initiative will go directly to the hands of shelter organizers (who must remain anonymous for their safety and the continued safety of their operations), and every contribution counts.
