Help Your Local Florist Move Into A New Space!!!

Hi there, my name is Kristin Horst, and I own and operate an online flower shop called FLOWER SHOP!!! in West Philadelphia, PA (IG: @flower_shop_phl). I'm a trained florist and artist. I'm a queer person, nature lover, and wildcrafter. I am grateful and honored able to bring flowers and heartfelt interactions to our community in the era of Covid.
With no formal website in place, FLOWER SHOP!!! opened it’s Instagram account in November of 2019 and began selling bouquets and arrangements to neighbors-turned-followers in January 2020.
It all started in my small, one bedroom apartment after purchasing a scratch and dent mini-wine fridge, some thrifted vases, and a pair of clippers. I put my 5 years of floral experience to use to cultivate the kind of shop I am be proud to be a part of. Over 500 sales, one assistant, a small delivery crew, and one full-sized professional cooler later--pandemic be damned--we are still here! I have hardly taken a break ever since.
We’ve also raised and contributed around $2,000 to social justice movements and campaigns centered around Black joy such as Camp Teddy, Black Lives Matter Philly, Philly Bail Out, North Philly Peace Park, mutual aid for a black trans woman, and more. I am also proud to be a small hub for information sharing regarding mutual aid, protests, and happenings within the Cedar Park neighborhood.
It has been a personal and professional struggle, however, to continue living and operating in a too-small apartment. In a recent announcement, I shared that I have found a new live/work space within the neighborhood. The space will better accommodate social distancing among co-workers, and allow way more space to create and handle all of your orders.
Unfortunately, I will need to close the shop for the last two weeks of January to make the transition. This will bring a loss of weekly income, but the time off will be necessary to physically move, settle in, and also REST. I absolutely recognize that if I burn out, there will be no more FLOWER SHOP!!!, so, this is also an investment in my mental, spiritual, and physical heath to keep it all going.
I need help with the following immediate needs to make this transition:
- security deposit + first month’s rent
- securing and financing movers
- funds to cover living expenses for two weeks of rest, regeneration and expansion
Any extra funding will go towards the comfort and organization of our space such as a shop-sized trashcan, shelving for all the new things I will be foraging and storing, worktables, ergonomic flood pads for workers who stand for many hours at a time, new photography gear, etc.
The timing of this move is also perfect: I can still get everyone’s holidays orders out AND also gear up for Valentine’s Day 2021!!!
