Who We Are
My name is Naomi and I am raising money for my pet hedgehog, Holly. I am a sophomore in high school and an aspiring veterinarian. Holly is my pet, and I provide all care and pay for all veterinary costs. Holly is an African Pygmy hedgehog and is very sweet and cuddly. She loves to run around and explore places that she shouldn't.

What Happened
About five months ago, Holly started experiencing health issues. She has always had dry skin, but around this time it started to get significantly worse. I started to notice blood in her urine as well. The day that I noticed this, I called 21 vets in the hopes that one of them could take Holly that same day. No one was available, and I ended up making an appointment with North Powers Animal Hospital for a week out.

The First Appointment and Cost
At the first appointment, I was informed that Holly may have a bacterial skin infection or mites. I was prescribed two medications. One I gave to her twice a day, and the other was every few weeks. The first appointment was $120.53 in total. The first re-check appointment was scheduled for about three weeks later.

The Second Appointment and Cost
Holly seemed to be improving I took her back for another appointment, just to make sure everything was going well. The doctor advised me to keep administering her medications and to make another appointment about a month out to make sure her skin was healing nicely. He also informed me that Holly's abdomen felt a little weird.  This could be anything from her having eaten a lot of food that day, to cancer. Going home from this appointment, I was hopeful that she would get better and we wouldn't have to worry about any more vet visits. This appointment was $39.95.

The Third Appointment and Cost
Holly's skin was doing better, but about two weeks later, I began to notice hints of blood in her cage. I was cleaning her cage and realized just how bad it was. She had bloody urine and was clearly not feeling the best. I called the vet that night and we decided that we had two options, more medicine, or expensive surgery. I opted for the medicine and that was $43.00.

Hopes of Improvement and Progress
Holly improved on this new medication and seemed to be doing better. I was not worried about her and for about a month she was healthy- or so I thought. We were nearing the next (and at the time what I thought would be the last) vet appointment. Just another routine check to make sure she was healing well. A week or so before this appointment, however, the blood was back. I started to notice more and more and was grateful that we already had an appointment set up.

The Fourth Vet Appointment and Surgery
The last appointment revealed that it would in fact be necessary to do surgery on her. Exotic animal surgeries are much more expensive than other animal procedures because the doctor must be more skilled. The vet suspected that Holly may have a lesion or tumor inside of her uterus. The best route is to spay her. This appointment was another $58.95. Spaying a hedgehog can be from $500 to $800.

Financial Aid
These funds will be used to help me pay for my pet Holly's surgery and any additional medications she might need. The doctor suggested that she be spayed as soon as possible, so it is my goal to be able to get her the surgery that she needs before my birthday on January 19th. Holly will only continue to get sicker the longer we wait for this operation, so your donation is greatly appreciated. Holly means so much to me and I would love to be able to do this for her, but I cannot afford it on my own. I am asking for your help to get Holly on the road to recovery. I would be so grateful if you choose to donate and I sincerely hope that you will. Even donating $5 to help the cause would mean the world to me. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read this and who is kind enough to donate.

I need a minimum of $507.73 for the surgery, but to take the recommended step of sending her uterus out for biopsy and including other medicines, I need $809.07. I am asking you to help Holly live a long and happy life. Thank you.
