Kiteboarding For Mental Health Awareness

Spende geschützt
Many people need professional mental health counseling right now, but cannot afford it.

And it's for that reason we need your help. Click here for our video

2020 has been hard on us. How have you been coping with all the uncertainties lately?  For some, it's a constant struggle just to get out of bed and eat.  To take a shower and show up for work.  Work?  That's if you are fortunate and healthy enough to show up and generate income.  For many, it's hard enough to pay for life's expenses, let alone getting professional therapy sessions to help navigate through the negative thoughts that are spiraling out of control.

Joey and I decided we wanted to kiteboard the entire length of the Florida Keys to ring in the new year, 2021.  A two-day trip starting in Key Largo, and finishing up at the southernmost point of the USA, Key West. This 100-mile expedition will be an incredible mental challenge for us, since it is something we have never done before, and thought it was only fitting to tie it all in with a charity and raise money for a cause I know we all can appreciate: our local mental health non-profit organizations.

I called the Florida Keys Guidance Care Center  the other day, asking what I can do to help during these troubling times.  Maureen, the program directed responded with, "just let everyone know we are here to help and that they CAN get help."

I asked her another question.  What has the volume of calls on the suicide hotline been like lately?  "We're slammed", she said.

That was enough for me to hear, and that is why we are raising funds for both the Florida Keys, where I live, and Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where Joey lives.  Your contribution is going to save lives...period.

With the money we receive for you, a small portion of it will also go towards logistical expenses.

- Shuttle service from Key West to Key Largo
- Camp site fee
- Food & water
- Emergency preparedness equipment

After those nominal costs, 50% of what is left will go to a Michigan organization and the other 50% will go to the Guidance Care Center of the Florida Keys.

With your help, we will be able to add a deeper meaning to this trip and carry a sense of pride that you were able to help someone in need.

We understand that money is hard to let go of at the moment, so even a simple share of this page will create a positive impact on this journey.

However you can contribute, we ask you for your help.  Together, we can help end the stigma of mental health and give our neighbors a chance at showing off their beautiful smile and living a fulfilling life.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Scott Gerke & Joe Tatangelo
