Help Alicia Knight Fight Cancer and COVID-19

Donation protected
It’s with a heavy heart that I write this appeal. Marilee “Alicia” Knight has been a mentor and one of my closest friends - and has seen me through some pretty difficult times.

Alicia is fighting for her life right now and needs our help now more than ever.

She has been in and out of the hospital over the last year. Last week, she was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer is at an advanced stage. The doctors began palliative care, which included chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, Alicia’s oxygen levels dropped precipitously low this morning at the rehabilitation center where she was receiving treatment. They immediately made arrangements to move her back to Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) in Fredericksburg, VA.

When arriving at MWH, she was tested for COVID-19 and tested positive this morning. Unfortunately, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is at capacity due to the pandemic. She is in a special section of the hospital that has been setup to try and help seriously ill COVID-19 patients.

Alicia is currently non-responsive and has been placed on a ventilator.

The picture that I posted is from two days ago. It’s been very difficult not being able to visit Alicia, due to the current pandemic. I was able to stand outside her window and try and talk to her; however, she was unable to stay conscious and talk to me for very long. Her breathing was very labored. This pandemic has take so much from so many people, this is just another instance of what so many families are dealing with when trying to be with their ill loved ones.

Both of her children, who live with and care for her, were also diagnosed with COVID-19 and have been unable to work. This is creating tremendous pressure on the family financially. They have also not been able to see their mother, which has been incredibly difficult.

Alicia’s home has been going through foreclosure, which was temporarily forestalled due to the pandemic. The medical bills are adding up, as well. They’ve run through their entire savings.

It’s been very difficult for Alicia and her family to ask for financial assistance in the past, but they need help now more than ever.

Any donations would be most appreciated. All proceeds will be used towards supporting Alicia and her family in this time of need. I know that this pandemic has affected many people in many ways right now, so anything everyone could provide would mean a lot.

I will be providing updates as more information becomes available. Things are very fluid right now. Please keep Alicia and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
