The Gomez House Fire Fund

Donation protected

On Saturday, December 12th, at 2 AM, the Gomez family of 9 was resting peacefully when, due to a faulty electrical outlet, flames erupted from the room of the youngest children while they slept. The flames quickly spread throughout the room and the adjacent rooms, and although 2 fire extinguishers were used, the fire refused to die down. Thanks to the heroic efforts of the father, Joel, who went into the burning room equipped with a hose and nothing else, the fire was contained to only that part of the house, and he prevented the rest of the house (which is made of mostly wood) from burning down. Although no one sustained any serious injury, the family, especially Joel and the family cats, inhaled copious amounts of smoke and soot from the wreckage.  That same night, the family camped out in their front yard, not being able to return inside the house because of all of the ashes coating every surface. While they consider themselves extraordinarily fortunate in having escaped the house unscathed, they do have a long road to go down before the house is fully live-able in once more. For now, the family will be split up into extended families' households, as they work tirelessly to restore what once was their treasured home. The children's belongings, including clothing, toys, electronics, went up in flames, as well as the only bathroom in the house, and many more basic essential items of other siblings like shoes, toiletries, etc. Joel and Kenia are the parents of seven, and although both are exceptionally hard-working and amazing people, their funds are already stretched out thin from providing for their 7 children, 3 dogs, and 3 cats. This travesty has been even more impactful, specifically because of Christmas coming around the corner. Though they had hoped to use any extra money for gifts for their children, every penny is going towards fixing the house, and hopefully being able to at least spend Christmas within the company of each other. We've arranged this GoFundMe in the efforts that through family and friends' generosity, we may get to repair the house more quickly and with good, long-lasting materials, as well as be able to fund any hospital and veterinarian bills needed to make sure everyone is safe and healthy. We understand that these are trying times due to COVID-19, but any sort of donation will make a very big impact for this family. Please consider donating and sharing this post where possible, thank you so much and have a blessed day with your families. :)
